THE JOURNEY
Vholly is an art project dedicated to my sister Holly and a love of tennis. Some of my favourite memories growing up were playing a friendly match with her at our cousin's cottage followed by a cannonball into the lake.
Holly was truly amazing and everyone loved her. She was always up for travelling, skiing, tennis, cooking, concerts, a good laugh and spending time with great friends. She was funny, kind, adventurous, pretty and smart. She was also a doctor. The special kind that listened, cared and spent time with her patients.
In her late 30's, the roles would change. She was diagnosed with clinical depression which continued on and off for a decade until, at the age of 47, she took her life. We were devastated. We watched how this disease could rob your mind of rational thoughts and the abyss of despair that ensued.
Our family vowed to help others facing the same illness and started the Dr Holly Carsley Memorial award at the Douglas institute in Montreal. It funds doctors researching depression and suicide prevention.
To aid the fund, I upcycle and sell vintage wood racquets by adding some Love. Love for Holly, Love for others fighting for their mental health. $25 from each racquet sale goes into the research award.
Thank you for your support,
Suzy
